Dragons extend their lead in the Friday Afternoon Pairs

The past week in the Indoor Bowls Leagues saw the Dragons pairing of Clive and Bernice McGreal take on the second-placed Sunset Rollers pair of Gordon and Shirley Corrin in the Friday Afternoon Pairs with the Dragons running out 4-0 winners. Low Rollers beat High Jacks 3-1, OK beat Celtic Thunder 4-0, Powered by Prosecco lost 4-0 to Woodbourne Reds and finally, Southpaws and Cowley Cannonballs played out a 2-2 draw. The Dragons now lead with 32 points followed by High Jacks on 25 points and in third place are Sunset Rollers also on 25 points.

In the Premiers Pairs, we once again saw a 4-0 win for leaders Dragons over Radical Heads and second-placed Cheesemakers also had a 4-0 win against GLS while Young Guns and Villa Boys drew 2-2. In the final match of the night Villans beat Tee Pegs 4-0 leaving Dragons still in the lead on 31 points with Cheesemakers second on 26 points and Villans third on 20 points.

The Tuesday Morning League saw leaders Bushwhackers take on second-placed Hillbillies and it was Bushwhackers who ran out 6-0 winners while third-placed Villans beat Ramsey Raiders 4-2 and Onchan Royals beat Jacks on a Roll by the same score. Thru the Gap beat Early Birds 6-0 and Maxums beat Cushags 4-2. The outcome of all this is that Bushwhackers retain their leading position on 42 points with Villans second on 37 points and Hillbillies third on 35 points.

The First Division Pairs Leaders Ramsey Wallys found tough opposition in 1 in 4 and this match ended in a 2-2 draw while a strong performance from Kencoe saw them beat the Officials 4-0 and OK and Enigma drew 2-2. In the remaining two games the ever-enthusiastic Super Hoops Terriers pairing of Rob Mathews and Andy Foster played well to beat Points Make Prizes 4-0 and Spinners and TOU drew 2-2. In the top spot, we still have Ramsey Wallys on 27 points followed by 1 in 4 on 24 points and the Officials on 22 points.

In the Premier Teams, the Dragons were too strong for DNA and they ran out 6-0 winners with Bay City Bowlers beating Villans by the same scoreline and Cheesemakers beating Saltire 4-2. In the remaining match of the night, we saw Ramsey Raiders beat Birdies 5-1 and all this means that Dragons lead on 43 points with Bay City Bowlers second on 39 points and Cheesemakers third on 37 points.

Thursday nights First Division Pairs saw leaders Ramsey Wallys having a bye and all four matches played ended up with a 4-2 score. Odd Balls beat Maxums, Smugglers beat OK, Optimists lost to CAOS and Cowley Cannonballs did well to beat Spinners. In top place, we still have Ramsey Wallys on 37 points followed by Spinners on 32 points and Smugglers on 29 points.

In the Singles League, the leader Muriel Cain had a bye and second-placed John Kewley beat his wife Win 16-7, Paul Cowley beat David Quayle 12-10, Edward Carlyle beat Mike Ashmole 15-10 and a very close battle saw Rob Mathews eventually beat Andy Foster 13-12. In the remaining two games Gary Lenton beat Michelle Cowley 18-5 and Mike Moyer beat Pauline Cowley 14-7. This then sees Muriel Cain in first place in the League on 18 points followed by John Kewley also on 18 points and we now see Paul Cowley moving into the third spot on 15 points.
