First defeat for the Ramsey Wallys

Week 11 of the Indoor Bowling Season saw the leading team in the First Division Pairs League the Ramsey Wallys suffer their first defeat as they went down 4-0 to the Officials pairing off Joyce Ogden and Caroline Whitehead. 1 in 4 who had also been in the running for a top spot also went down 4-0 to Points Make Prizes and OK drew 2-2 with Kencoe. A tremendous second game performance from Super Hoops Terriers saw them fight back to draw 2-2 and great form from Enigma saw them win their first game and lead the second game only to lose it after a great end from TOU making the final result 2-2. This sees Ramsey Wallys still lead on 31 points with Points Make Prizes now second on 29 points and the Officials third on 28 points.

In the Premier Pairs another strong performance from leaders Dragons saw them beat Villa Boys 4-0, Cheesemakers drew 2-2 with Radical Heads and good form from Villans saw them beat Young Guns 4-0 while GLS and Tee Pegs drew 2-2. This means that Dragons are top with 38 points with Cheesemakers second on 32 points and Villans third on 26 points.

In the Tuesday Morning League, Bushwhackers beat Maxums 5-1, Thru the Gap lost 6-0 to Villans and Ramsey Raiders beat Onchan Royals 4-2. Hillbillies and Early Birds drew 3-3 in a close match and Jacks on a Roll lost 4-2 to Cushags meaning that Bushwhackers on 44 points hold top place on 53 points with Villans second on 49 points and Hillbillies third on 42 points.

The Premier Teams leaders Dragons beat Ramsey Raiders 4-2 in this League with Villans beating DNA 4-2 and Saltire lost 6-0 to Bay City Bowlers. A 4-2 loss for Cheesemakers to Birdies saw them drop into third place with 44 points and Bay City Bowlers moving above them into second place on 46 points and Dragons staying top on 53 points.

In the First Division Teams the League leaders Ramsey Wallys beat CAOS 6-0 while second-placed Spinners lost 4-2 to OK and Cowley Cannonballs beat Oddballs 5-1 and in the final game of the night Optimists beat  Smugglers 4-2. The end result of all this is that Ramsey Wallys are top on 48 points with Spinners second on 34 points and Smugglers third on 33 points.

In the Friday Afternoon League the leaders Dragons had a 4-0 walkover against Powered by Prosecco, OK beat Sunset Rollers 3-1 and second-placed High Jacks lost 4-0 to Celtic Thunder. In the remaining two games Woodbourne Reds lost 4-0 to Cowley Cannonballs and in a high scoring game Southpaws and Low Rollers drew 2-2. The runaway leaders after this are Dragons on 40 points followed by Sunset Rollers on 29 points and in the third spot are High Jacks on 28 points.

The week as always finished with the Friday night Singles League where leader Muriel Cain had a bye and second-placed John Kewley beat Michelle Cowley 25-7. A good performance from Rob Matthews saw him beat Michael Moyer 20-8 and Edward Carlyle beat Pauline Cowley 18-5 and in a very tight game, Mike Ashmole beat Win Kewley 15-14. In the final game of the night, Andy Foster lost 18-3 to Paul Cowley which leaves Muriel Cain still in top spot on 21 points followed by John Kewley also on 21 points and in third place is Paul Cowley on 16 points.

So that brings us to the Christmas and New Year break and I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year and good bowling for the Year ahead. When we started this Season we were unsure as to whether we would get through to the New Year so I would also like to thank our Government and the people of the Isle of Man for the way that they have handled this pandemic.
