2018 End of Season Report

2017/18 has once again been a busy season for the Isle of Man Indoor Bowling Association. The indoor bowling season which runs from October to March, is held at the National Sports Centre, Douglas and has seen members compete to take the honours in the various leagues and National Championships.

Leagues are held every evening Monday to Friday and on a Tuesday morning with a “round robin” on Saturday afternoon. National Championships are held towards the end of the season with the winners from the under 25’s , Ladies Singles & Men’s Singles representing the island at the World Indoor Bowls Council Championships held in Hartlepool.

This year Ben Dugdale represented the island in December at the under 25’s World Indoor Championships in Hartlepool. The Senior World Indoor Championships will be held at same venue in April with Muriel Cain Ladies Single Champion and Martin Paterson representing the island. The Men’s Singles Champion Mark McGreal is representing the island at the Commonwealth Games , therefore a further competition to determine a Male Singles representative was held and the winner Martin Paterson will be joining Muriel Cain next month to represent the island at a Championship which is no stranger to either of them, both aware of the stiff competition they will face.

The Indoor Bowling Association would like to thank all members for their support during this season and congratulate the winners of the various league titles and Championships, and all members who participated in those Championships with a particular “well done” to Lyn & Sid Bolton & Peter Greenlees who in their first indoor season and first Championships proved they will be ones to watch next season.  

The Association also wishes to Congratulate and send best wishes to Muriel Cain and Martin Paterson who will represent the island at the World Indoor Bowling Championships next month.

2018 AGM

The Association wishes to remind members that the Annual General Meeting will be held in the Bowls Hall, National Sports Centre on Thursday 12th April at 7pm .

Urgent Notice – Bowls Cancelled 28 Feb to 2 March 2018

Thursday’s 1st Division League Matches and the Triples Championships (Semi-Final and Final) have been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

These matches will now be scheduled for the week after the Pairs Championships.

New dates:

  • Wednesday 14th March: Semi-final triples championships
  • Thursday 15th March: 1st Division league match
  • Friday 16th March: Triples championship final

Use of Rinks Outside League and Competition Times

Please remember that the green is available to other users.

Consideration should be given to the fact that only rinks 3, 4 and 5 are available for annual ticket holders and rinks 1 and 2 are available for casual hire.

If you are using either rink 1 or 2 for practice and a casual hirer has paid for one or both of these rinks, then you must move off that rink immediately.

Urgent Notice To Male Members

WORLD INDOOR BOWLS COUNCIL WORLD SENIOR INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

We are urgently seeking a representative to play in the Men’s singles at the forthcoming World Indoor Bowls Council Senior World Championships to be held in Hartlepool, England during the period 10th to 13th April, 2018. The player will also participate in the Mixed Pairs with our National Ladies Champion, Muriel Cain.

Our current men’s singles champion will be joining the lawn bowls team for the Commonwealth Games in Australia so is unavailable for this event.

MINI KNOCKOUT SINGLES COMPETITION

In order to find a new representative there will be a mini knockout competition for interested parties on

Tuesday 13th February 2018 at 6.30pm prompt.

Indoor Bowling Leagues Recommence

Leagues fixtures notice at IOM NSC

The Isle of Man Indoor Bowls leagues will recommence after the Christmas break on Monday 8th January with the Premier Pairs at 6.30pm.

The start of the second part of the Indoor Bowling season begins with several teams in contention for top three places in the leagues.

Monday Premier Pairs league leaders the Dragons are just 2 points ahead of Cheesemakers with only 4 points separating the top 5 teams in this league.

Tuesday morning league leaders Villans will be looking to hold onto their position against second place Onchan Royals, on Tuesday evening the 1st Division pairs are currently lead by Jazz with a 7 point lead over second place Castletown Crofters.

The Dragons lead the Wednesday Premier teams with a 7 point lead over second place QPR.

Thursday 1st Division teams are lead by Mann Utd with a 4 point lead over second place Maxims.

The Friday evening 2nd Division Pairs league is currently topped by Terriers with an impressive 8 point lead over second place Airheads.

The second half of the Indoor season should prove to be interesting with teams within reach of pole position battling to achieve top spot and those in the second half of league tables battling to improve their position and avoid relegation.

Entries for the forthcoming Ladies and Men’s Singles Championships will be closing shortly . Members wishing to play should apply now. Entry forms are on the notice board in the bowls hall.

Pre Season Friendly Matches

There will be pre season friendly matches for all leagues, starting on Monday 2nd October.

Please turn up as per your usual league match times – the order of play is on the notice board in the bowls hall.

Subs and Locker Rentals

Please ensure your subs (where applicable) and locker rentals are paid before your first match.

September Taster Sessions

IOMIBA notice board in the NSC bowls hall

Taster sessions for newcomers and anyone interested in trying indoor bowls (minimum age 16 years) will take place during September.

Details of taster sessions

  • Dates: Monday 18th – Friday 22nd September 2017
  • Times: 6.30pm – 8.30pm each evening
  • Where: in the NSC bowls hall

Members who are available to help at these sessions should let the Secretary know.

Renewal Notices for 2017-2018 Season

Renewal notices have now been sent out by the Treasurer.  Please complete and return your forms together with your remittance as soon as possible.

Team Captains

Please register your team/pairs by contacting Joyce on 616139 (ansaphone) or email sec@iomindoorbowling.org  Early response is required so fixtures can be drawn up.

Leagues

Leagues will commence at the beginning of October.  The hall will be open during September for pre-season practice

Newcomers

There will be a trial period each evening during the week commencing 18th September (evenings) for newcomers and people wishing to try indoor bowls.  Further details will be available shortly at the NSC.
