As we move through the three weeks of our 2020 Championships we have had some great bowling and the spectators who came to watch the Semi Finals of the Triples Competition were certainly not disappointed by the standard of play.
The match between Clive and Bernice McGreal and Janice Pilling and Alan Franklin, Phil Smith and Win Collister saw some quality bowling with the McGreal/Pilling trio going into a 10 – 0 lead over their competitors only to find themselves then being 11 – 10 down and having to take the last end for a 12-11 win.
The other Semi Final saw Steve Cook, Edward Carlyle and Tony Dugdale meet Jimmy Sansom and Paula and Stuart Garrett in a match that is undoubtedly one of the best games that I have ever watched and saw both teams play some outstanding bowls.
This Game kept those watching on the edge of their seats and biting their fingernails as it ended level and went to a sudden death one end Play Off which produced even more fantastic bowls and saw the team of Jimmy Sansom and Paula and Stuart Garrett win but great credit must go to their opponents for playing so well and pushing them all the way.
After watching two great Semi Finals I would recommend that if you have the time available that you pop down to the NSC Bowls Hall on the afternoon of February 1st to watch Finals Day to watch the Triples, Pairs and Ladies and Men’s Singles Finals.
