Cheesemakers top two Leagues

In the Indoor Bowls at the NSC we saw Cheesemakers move into top place in both the Premier Pairs and Premier Teams Leagues with strong performances in both Leagues.

On Monday last week Cheesemakers beat Spinners 4-0, Tee Pegs drew 2-2 with Villans and Ramsey Raiders beat GG’s 4-0. The remaining two matches saw Blues Brothers and Villa Boys and Northern Lights and Ramsey Wallys both draw 2-2 meaning that Cheesemakers top the League with sixteen points followed by Villans on thirteen points and in third place are Blues Brothers on twelve points.

The Tuesday Morning League is providing some close competition this season and we saw Vee 3 hold Hillbillies to a 3-3 draw while Maxums beat Early Birds 6-0 and Ramsey Raiders beat Onchan Royals 5-1. In the remaining match Castletown Crofters beat the Bowling Stones 6-0 which means that only two points separate the top three teams in the League. In first are Ramsey Raiders on seventeen points followed by Hillbillies also with seventeen points and in third place are Onchan Royals on fifteen points.

In the First Division Pairs Castletown Crofters drew 2-2 with How We Role, Generations lost 0-4 to Tinjo and 1 in 4 drew 2-2 with TOU. Douglas Old Boys lost 0-4 to LIV Bowls and Enigma drew 2-2 with Us2. All this means that LIV Bowls now top the League with sixteen points followed by How We Role on fourteen points and in third place are 1 in 4 with twelve points.

On Wednesday night we saw three matches in the Premier Teams League and in these Spinners lost 2-4 to Ramsey Wallys, Saltire lost 0-6 to Villans and Birdies lost 1-5 to Cheesemakers. The League positions following this are that Cheesemakers lead with seventeen points and in second place are Ramsey Wallys with the same points total and in third place are Villans on thirteen points.

The First Division Teams League continued on Thursday evening with Bowlistics and Moorganites drawing 3-3, Maxums beating Odd Balls 4-2 and Castletown Crofters beating Optimists 5-1. This means that Castletown Crofters now lead the League with fifteen points followed by Optimists on thirteen points and behind them are Moorganites with twelve points.

In the popular Friday Afternoon Pairs the Woodbourne Reds lost 0-4 to Top Dogs, Celtic Thunder beat High Jacks 4-0 and GG’s lost 0-4 to Rejects. The Watties beat Tinker and Bell 4-0 and Crown Greeners and Sunset Rollers drew 2-2. Leading the League now are Top Dogs on twelve points followed by the Watties on ten points and in third place are Celtic Thunder also on ten points.

As usual the Indoor Bowls Week ended on Friday evening with the Singles League and in this the League Leader Muriel Cain beat Alan College 21-9 while second placed Shirley Corrin beat Gordon Drinkwater 17-6. In a tight match Marcia Pearson beat Gordon Corrin 15-14, Mike Ashmole had a 10-0 win against John Kewley and Marilyn Ellison lost 7-14 to Win Kewley. This leaves a fascinating battle for the top of the League with Muriel Cain in first place with twelve points with Shirley Corrin in second place also with twelve points and in third place is Mike Ashmole with ten points.

Close battle for lead in Friday Pairs

The third week of the Isle of Man Indoor Bowls League saw a great performance from Villans in the Premier Pairs as they beat Cheesemakers 4-0. GG’s went down 0-4 to Villa Boys and the Officials drew 2-2 with Spinners. In the remaining two games we had another 2-2 draw between Tee Pegs and Ramsey Raiders while Blues Brothers beat Ramsey Wallys 4-0. The end result of this is that Cheesemakers still top the League with twelve points followed by Villans with eleven points and Blues Brothers with ten points.

In the Tuesday Morning League Onchan Royals beat Vee 3 with a score of 4-2, Villans lost 0-6 to Ramsey Raiders and Hillbillies bat Maxums 6-0. In the remaining match, Early Birds lost 1-5 to Castletown Crofters which means that the League is now topped by Onchan Royals on fourteen points followed by Hillbillies also with fourteen points and in third place are Ramsey Raiders on twelve points.

The First Division Pairs League saw Castletown Crofters draw 2-2 with Enigma, TOU lose 0-4 to LIV Bowls and TinJo lose 0-4 to 1 in 4. How We Role beat Douglas Old Boys 4-0 and Us2 also beat Generations 4-0. LIV Bowls now top the League on twelve points followed by How We Role with the same points total and in third place are 1 in 4 on ten points.

In the Premier Teams League, a close match between Villans and Birdies ended in a 3-3 draw, Cheesemakers beat Ramsey Wallys 4-2 and Saltire lost 2-4 to Spinners. This means that Ramsey Wallys still lead the League with thirteen points followed closely by Cheesemakers with twelve points and in third place are Birdies with eight points.

There were three games in the First Division Teams League where Optimists beat Maxums 6-0, Crown Greeners lost 2-4 to Bowlistics and Moorganites beat Odd Balls 4-2. The end result of this is that Optimists are in top place with twelve points and in second place are Crown Greeners with eleven points followed by Castletown Crofters with ten points.

There is a great battle for the lead in the Friday Afternoon Pairs League and last Friday we saw Top Dogs beat GG’s 3-1, Crown Greeners beat Woodbourne Reds 4-0 while High Jacks lost 0-4 to the Watties. In the remaining two matches Tinker and Bell beat Rejects 4-0 and Sunset Rollers drew 2-2 with Celtic Thunder. This means that Top Dogs top the League on eight points followed by Crown Greeners also with eight points and in third place are GG’s with seven points.

The Singles League saw Mike Ashmole and Gordon Drinkwater draw at 12-12, Allan College lose 12-14 to Shirley Corrin and John Kewley lost 6-16 to Win Kewley. The ever-consistent Muriel Cain beat Glynis Drinkwater 20-4 and the remaining match saw Marcia Pearson beat Marilyn Ellison with all this meaning that Muriel Cain is leading the League with nine points. In second place is Shirley Corrin also with nine points and in third place is Gordon Drinkwater with seven points.

 

Close battle at top of Singles League

The highlight of the early part of the new Indoor Bowls Season is the tight battle for top spot in the Singles League where after the first three matches we have the first six players all having six points. In last weeks games we saw Gordon Corrin beat Win Kewley 20-7, Gordon Drinkwater beat John Kewley 10-0 and in a tight match Marilyn Ellison beat Alan College 12-11. In the remaining two matches Shirley Corrin beat Marcia Pearson 16-9 and in another close game Glynis Drinkwater lost 13-14 to Mike Ashmole. This means that Muriel Cain leads the League with six points and she is followed by Shirley Corrin, Gordon Corrin, Glynis Drinkwater, Gordon Drinkwater and Mike Ashmole also with six points.

In the Premier Pairs League Ramsey Raiders lost 0-4 to Cheesemakers, Spinners beat Blues Brothers 4-0 and Officials lost 1-3 to Tee Pegs. The remaining two matches saw Villa Boys draw 2-2 with Villans and GG’s lose 1-3 to Northern Lights with all this leaving Cheesemakers top with four points followed by Northern Lights and Tee Pegs who both have five points.

The Tuesday Morning League saw Hillbillies beat Onchan Royals 4-2 in a close match and Castletown Crofters lose 0-6 to Villans. Maxums beat the Bowling Stones 6-0 and Vee 3’s lost 2-4 to Early Birds meaning that at this early stage of the season that Onchan Royals are in first place with ten points followed by Villans also with ten points and in third place are Hillbillies with eight points.

In the First Division Pairs League a strong performance from LIV Bowls saw them beat Generations 4-0 while 1 in 4 beat Us2 with a score of 3-1 and How we Role beat Enigma 4-0. Castletown Crofters drew 2-2 with TOU and a 4-0 win for Douglas Old Boys against Tinjo saw Generations move into top place in the League with eight points followed by How we Role also on eight points with 1 in 4 in third place with six points.

In the Premier Teams League we saw Ramsey Wallys beat Villans 6-0, Saltire lost 2-4 to Birdies and Spinners lost 2-4 to Cheesemakers. This means that Ramsey Wallys are in first place with eleven points followed by Cheesemakers on eight points and Birdies on five points.

The First Division Teams League saw Moorganites lose 1-5 to Crown Greeners while in a very tight match Bowlistics lost 2-4 to Optimists and Castletown Crofters beat Maxums 4-2. This leaves Castletown Crofters top of the League with ten  points followed by Crown Greeners on nine points and in third place are Optimists with six points.

Newcomers to Indoor Bowls this season the GG’s have made a good start in the Friday Afternoon Pairs and they moved to top of the league with a 2-2 draw against High Jacks which set of a pattern of draws with Top Dogs drawing with Crown Greeners, Woodbourne Reds drawing with Tinker and Bell and finally the match between Rejects and Celtic Thunder was also drawn 2-2. All this means that GG’s are top with six points followed by Rejects also on six points and in third place are Top Dogs on five points.

Indoor Bowls starts its new season

The new season of the Isle of Man Indoor Bowls Association Indoor League started at the NSC with the Singles League and in this we saw Marilyn Ellison lose 6-21 to reigning Champion Muriel Cain and Alan Colledge lost 9-18 to Glynis Drinkwater. A close match between Marcia Pearson and Gordon Drinkwater saw the latter player win 11-10 while John Kewley lost 9-12 to Gordon Corrin and in the remaining match Shirley Corrin beat Win Kewley 19-6.

In the Premier Pairs Blues Brothers drew 2-2 with newcomers Northern Lights, Villans lost 3-1 to Ramsey Raiders and a strong performance from Ramsey Wallys saw them beat the Officials 4-0. The other new team GG’s lost 0-4 to Cheesemakers and Tee Pegs and Villa Boys drew 2-2.

The Tuesday Morning League started well for Ramsey Raiders who beat the Bowling Stones 6-0 while Hillbillies also had a 6-0 win against Castletown Crofters. In the third 6-0 result of the morning we saw Early Birds lose to Onchan Royals and Villans beat Vee 3 with a score of 4-2 .

The First Division Pairs saw TOU lose 0-4 to How we Role while Castletown Crofters beat Douglas Old Boys also 4-0. Us2 lost 0-4 to LIV Bowls while Tinjo also lost 0-4 to Enigma and in the remaining match of the evening Generations lost 9-25 to 1 in 4.

In the Premier Teams League we saw three matches played and in these Villans beat Spinners 4-2 while Birdies lost 1-5 to Ramsey Wallys and Cheesemakers beat Saltire 4-2.

We also saw three matches played in the First Division Teams League with Optimists losing 2-4 to Moorgarites and Maxums also lose 2-4 to Crown Greeners while in the remaining match of the session Odd Balls lost 0-6 to Castletown Crofters.

The popular Friday Afternoon Pairs League had five games played and we saw Tinker and Bell lose 1-3 to Top Dogs while Woodbourne Reds lost 0-4 to the GG’s pairing of Glynis and Gordon Drinkwater. Sunset Rollers lost 0-4 to Rejects, High Jacks and Crown Greeners drew 2-2 and Celtic Thunder also drew 2-2 with the Watties.

The first full week of the season was then brought to an end with the second round of the Singles League and in this we saw Marcia Pearson lose 7-21 to John Kewley and Glynis Drinkwater beat Shirley Corrin 12-11 in a very tight game. Win Kewley beat Gordon Drinkwater 14-10 and Gordon Corrin lost 8-14 to Muriel Cain.

It’s the Year of the Dragon once more

This week has seen the Copyshop Indoor Bowls League draw to a close with one team dominating each competition they took part in. The Chinese Zodiac may show 2022 as being the Year of the Tiger it’s most certainly the second successive Year of the Dragon in Indoor Bowls as Dragons won every League they competed in.

In the last week of the Premier Pairs, we saw Dragons beat Cheesemakers 4-0, Villans draw 2-2 with Blues Brothers and the Officials beat Young Guns 4-0. In the remaining match of the night, Tee Pegs drew 2-2 with Ramsey Raiders meaning that the Dragons won the League with 60 points with Villans in second place with 38 points and the Cheesemakers were in third place with 35 points.

The Tuesday Morning Teams League which is, without doubt, the most popular with the players ended with the Dragons taking the League Championship by beating Villans 4-2, Hillbillies lost to 2-4 to Onchan Royals and Castletown Crofters lost 2-4 to Ramsey Raiders. Jacks On A Roll beat Thru the Gap 4-2 and Early Birds lost 2-4 to Maxums meaning that Dragons win the League with 85 points followed by Villans with 74 points and in third place are Onchan Royals with 70 points.

In the First Division Pairs, there was a 2-2 draw between Enigma and Castletown Crofters and How Much? and TOU also drew 2-2. A spirited performance from TinJo saw them once more hold Spinners to a 2-2 draw. This competition needed Spinners and Stan and Ollie to play two outstanding games before it came to a conclusion and Spinners won both of these 4-0. This means that Spinners win the League with 48 points followed by Ramsey Wallys on 47 points and in third place are Castletown Crofters with 42 points.

The Premier Teams League had finished after week 14 and the few rearranged games have now been played leaving Dragons in first place with 60 points followed by Cheesemakers on 57 points and Ramsey Wallys on 56 points.

The First Division Teams League also finished after week 14 and with two outstanding games now having been completed the winners were Spinners with 51 points followed by Optimists with 45 points and in third place were Maxums on 40 points.

In the final session of the Friday Afternoon Pairs Dragons beat Sunset Rollers 4-0, Lenton Athletic drew 2-2 with Rejects and High Jacks beat Em and Bee 4-0. The remaining match saw Woodbourne Reds finish the season with a flourish as they beat Celtic Thunder 4-0. The League Champions are Dragons with 50 points and in second place are Rejects with 38 points while High Jacks are third with 35 points.

The Singles League drew to a close with Gordon Wynne-Smythe beating Mike Moyer 25-5, John Kewley lost 5-12 to Muriel Cain and Marilyn Ellison lost 8-12 to Alan Franklin. In the remaining match, Dee Lewis beat Rob Matthews 16-6 meaning that Muriel Cain is League Champion with 46 points with John Kewley is second with 28 points and Dee Lewis after a good finish to the season was third also on 28 points only losing out to John by chalk difference.

If I were to pick a team of the Season it would have to be Dragons whose consistency was outstanding although Spinners played well also to win both competitions that they entered. Player of the year would have to be Mark McGreal who can be so competitive in every level of competition and despite not getting to compete off Island in the two years of Covid he has managed to maintain great form and win the Singles Championship for the fourth year out of five and be half of the Pairs Championship winning Team with his Dad Clive.

Dragons take two League Championship wins

As the Copyshop Indoor Bowls Season reached its last three weeks we have seen Dragons win two League Championship wins while still almost certain to pick up another two.

In the Premier Pairs Dragons beat the Officials 4-0 to seal their League win with 54 points while Cheesemakers drew 2-2 with Villa Boys and Blues Brothers beat Ramsey Raiders 4-0. In the remaining match of the night, Villans and Tee Pegs drew 2-2 which means that Cheesemakers are in second place with 35 points and Villans hold third spot on 32 points.

Dragons won their second Championship in the Friday afternoon Pairs by drawing 2-2 with Rejects while Woodbourne Reds and Em and Bee also drew 2-2 as did Celtic Thunder and High Jacks. This means that Dragons take the League win on week sixteen of eighteen weeks as they now have 42 points with Celtic Thunder in second place on 32 points and Rejects are in third place also on 32 points.

In the First Division Pairs, the TOU pairing of Dee Lewis and David Quirk put on a great show to beat Spinners 4-0 and Stan and Ollie lost 4-0 to the Enigma pair of Win Kewley and Pam Makin. The remaining two matches also ended 4-0 with How Much? beating TinJo and 1 in 4 losing to Ramsey Wallys meaning that Ramsey Wallys currently top the league with 43 points followed by Castletown Crofters on 36 points and Spinners are in third place with 34 points but they have three games in hand over the top team.

The Tuesday Morning League saw leaders Dragons beat Thru the Gap 6-0, Villans beat Castletown Crofters 4-2 and Jacks On A Roll lose 2-4 to Ramsey Raiders. Early Birds lost 0-6 to Hillbillies and Onchan Royals beat Maxums 4-2 which leaves Dragons top on 75 points and Villans in second place with 68 points and in third place are Onchan Royals on 61 points.

In the Singles League, we saw Muriel Cain take the League Championship with two weeks still to play as she beat Gordon Wynne-Smythe 20-4 and John Kewley beat Win Kewley also 20-4. In the remaining two games Rob Matthews lost 7-13 to Alan Franklin and Dee Lewis beat Marilyn Ellison 18-7 which means that Muriel Cain in first place has 40 points with John Kewley in second place with 28 points and Dee Lewis is third with 25 points.

Castletown Crofters beat First Division Pairs leaders

In this week’s report on the Copyshop Indoor Bowls League, we start with the First Division Pairs where Castletown Crofters beat leaders Ramsey Wallys 4-0 while Enigma and How Much? drew 2-2. The game between Stan and Ollie and Spinners wasn’t played as one of the players had to call off at short notice and in the remaining game, 1 in 4 lost 0-4 to TOU. The league table now shows Ramsey Wallys still leading with 39 points followed by Castletown Crofters on 36 points and Spinners have 34 points but they currently have three games in hand.

In the Premier Pairs, the Dragons Pairing of Clive and Bernice McGreal beat Villans 4-0, the Officials beat Ramsey Raiders also 4-0 and Cheesemakers and Tee Pegs drew 2-2. The remaining match of the night saw Young Guns beat Villa Boys 4-0 leaving Dragons in top spot with 50 points followed by Cheesemakers with 33 points and in third place are Villans with 28 points.

The Friday Afternoon Pairs saw the leaders Dragons march on with a 4-0 victory over High Jacks and the Rejects Pairing of Phil Kerruish and Steve Cook beat Woodbourne Reds also 4-0 while Lenton Athletic took the third 4-0 win of the afternoon against Em and Bee. This means that Dragons are in first position with 40 points with Celtic Thunder in second spot on 30 points followed by Rejects who also have 30 points.

A great 6-0 win for Dragons against third-placed Onchan Royals in the Tuesday Morning League saw them extend their lead over second-placed Villans who lost 2-4 to Maxums. Castletown Crofters beat Hillbillies 4-2, Early Birds beat Jacks On A Roll 6-0 and there was also a 6-0 win for Ramsey Raiders against Thru the Gap. The leaders then are Dragons with 69 points and they have extended their lead to five points from Villans with 64 points and in third place are Onchan Royals with 57 points.

In the Friday Singles League the leader Muriel Cain marched on with a 23-7 defeat of Rob Matthews, John Kewley beat Alan Franklin 22-6 and Gordon Wynne-Smythe lost 7-10 to Marilyn Ellison. Win Kewley beat Mike Moyer 15-5 and all this means that Muriel Cain still leads with 37 points followed by John Kewley with 25 points and in third place is Dee Lewis on 22 points.

In the First Division Pairs the one outstanding match in which Spinners beat Oddballs 6-0 has been completed and this sees Spinners win the League with 51 points. In second place are Optimists with 45 points and in third place are Maxums with 40 points.

The Premier Teams League still has some rearranged fixtures to be played and as soon as I have the results of these I will update the League positions. Currently, Cheesemakers have played all of their fourteen games for 56 points, Dragons have played thirteen games for 56 points and Ramsey Wallys have played thirteen games for 54 points.

Close battles for League Titles

The latest round of the Copyshop Indoor Bowls Leagues has seen some close battles develop for the top spot especially in the ‘Teams Leagues’. In the Tuesday Morning League leaders Villans beat Thru the Gap 4-2 while second-placed Dragons beat Maxums 6-0. In the remaining games Onchan Royals beat Early Birds 6-0, Jacks On A Roll beat Castletown Crofters 4-2 and Ramsey Raiders lost 0-6 to Hillbillies. This means that Dragons now take the lead with 63 points, Villans drop into second place with 62 points and Onchan Royals are third with 57 points.

In the Premier Teams Bay City Bowlers beat Ramsey Raiders 4-2, Saltire lost 0-6 to Cheesemakers and Villans lost 2-4 to Dragons while in the remaining match Ramsey Wallys beat Birdies 4-2. The outcome of this is that Cheesemakers have played all their games and currently lead on 57 points followed by Dragons on 56 points and Ramsey Wallys on 54 points with the latter two teams still having one more game to play.

The First Division Teams League is also close at the top and here we saw Team Caos beat OK 4-2, Odd Balls lost 1-5 to Maxums and Optimists beat Castletown Crofters 4-2. Although this means that Optimists following a recent show of good form have moved into first place on 45 points having played all their matches. In second place are Spinners also on 45 points but they have an outstanding match against Odd Balls still to play and in third place are Maxums with 40 points.

In the Premier Pairs, the leaders Dragons beat Villa Boys 4-0 while Tee Pegs and Blues Brothers drew 2-2. The remaining two matches between Young Guns and Ramsey Raiders and Villans and Cheesemakers also ended in 2-2 draws meaning that Dragons hold first place with 46 points followed by Cheesemakers on 31 points and Villans on 28 points.

A strong performance from the Castletown Crofters pairing of Ron Williams and George Peach saw them beat How Much? 4-0 in the First Division Pairs. Spinners and 1 in 4 drew 2-2 and there were 4-0 wins for Ramsey Wallys against Stan and Ollie and TOU against TinJo. All this means that Ramsey Wallys top the league with 39 points followed by Spinners with 34 points and Castletown Crofters with 32 points.

The Friday Afternoon Pairs saw Em and Bee beaten 4-0 by Celtic Thunder, Lenton Athletic beat Woodbourne Reds 4-0 and Sunset Rollers lost 0-4 to High Jacks. Dragons still lead on 36 points with Celtic Thunder on 30 points and High Jacks have 26 points in third place.

The Singles League saw a close game between the unbeaten leader Muriel Cain and Win Kewley with Muriel eventually running out with a 13-11 win. Rob Matthews beat John Kewley 11-8, Alan Franklin lost 8-19 to Dee Lewis and Marilyn Ellison beat Mike Moyer 11-9. This means that Muriel Cain tops the league with 34 points and the battle for second place is now getting interesting with John Kewley in that spot on 22 points followed by Dee Lewis and Rob Matthews also on 22 points.

Late challenge from Spinners in First Division Pairs

One of the big stories in Week 13 of the Copyshop Indoor Bowls League in the First Division Pairs was Spinners 4-0 defeat of Ramsey Wallys to elevate the former team into second place and close the gap at the top to just three points. In the remaining games, Enigma beat 1 in 4 also 4-0 and with an identical scoreline, Stan and Ollie beat TOU. This means that Ramsey Wallys still lead with 35 points with Spinners now second with 32 points and 1in 4 drop to third with 28 points.

The Premier Pairs League saw clear leaders Dragons held to a 2-2 draw by the Tee Pegs pairing of Muriel Cain and Marcia Pearson, Young Guns beat Blues Brothers 4-0 and Cheesemakers and the Officials also drew 2-2. In the remaining match of the night, Villans beat Villa Boys 4-0 and all this means that Dragons lead with 42 points followed by Cheesemakers with 29 points and holding the third spot are Villans with 26 points.

In the Friday Afternoon Pairs, Lenton Athletic lost 4-0 to leaders Dragons, Sunset Rollers and Celtic Thunder drew 2-2 and Rejects beat Em and Bee 4-0. The League Table after this shows Dragons top with 36 points, Celtic Thunder is second with 26 points and Rejects are third also with 26 points.

The Singles League saw Rob Matthews just beat Win Kewley 10-9, Muriel Cain beat Alan Franklin 32-2, John Kewley beat Gordon Wynne-Smythe 13-9 and Mike Moyer lost 6-18 to Dee Lewis. These results mean that Muriel Cain is in top place with 31 points and in second place is John Kewley with 22 points and there is a tight battle for third place which is currently held by Rob Matthews on 19 points but Dee Lewis in fourth place also has 19 points.

There is really keen competition for the lead in the Tuesday Morning Teams League and in the latest round of fixtures we saw leaders Villans lose 2-4 to Onchan Royals, Dragons beat Castletown Crofters 4-2 and Maxums beat Thru the Gap 6-0. In the remaining matches, Hillbillies beat Jacks On A Roll 4-2 and Ramsey Raiders beat Early Birds also 4-2. Despite their loss Villans still lead with 58 points but the Dragons are now only one point behind with 57 points and in third place are Onchan Royals with 51 points.

In the Premier Teams, a strong performance from Ramsey Wallys saw them beat Villans 6-0 while Cheesemakers also had a 6-0 victory against Birdies. Dragons beat Ramsey Raiders 4-2 and Bay City Bowlers also won 4-2 against Saltire. This means that the Dragons lead with 52 points followed by Cheesemakers on 51 points and Ramsey Wallys are third with 50 points.

The First Division Teams League saw leaders Spinners continue their good form with a 4-2 win against Team Caos, OK lost 2-4 to Maxums and Optimists beat Oddballs also 4-2. These results mean that Spinners still hold the lead with 45 points followed by Optimists with 41 points and Castletown Crofters with 33 points.

Dragons breathe fire against Cheesemakers

In the latest round of the Copyshop Indoor Bowls League, we saw Dragons set the Premier Teams League alight as they were ‘breathing fire’ to take a 5-1 win against leaders Cheesemakers. Ramsey Wallys beat Saltire 6-0, Bay City Bowlers and Villans played out a 3-3 draw and Ramsey Raiders beat Birdies 6-0. Despite their loss Cheesemakers still top the league with 45 points followed by Ramsey Wallys on 44 points and the Dragons now have 42 points but they have a game in hand over the two teams above them.

The First Division Teams saw leaders Spinners beat second-placed Optimists 4-2, Castletown Crofters beat OK 5-1 and Oddballs lose 0-6 to Team CAOS. The outcome of this is that Spinners lead with 41 points followed by Optimists on 37 points and in third place are Castletown Crofters with 33 points.

As usual, we saw a full NSC Bowls Hall for the Tuesday Morning Teams League and in this, we saw leaders Villans beat Hillbillies 5-1, Ramsey Raiders lost 0-6 to Dragons and Early Birds lost 2-4 to Thru the Gap. In the remaining two matches Onchan Royals beat Jacks On A Roll 4-2 and Castletown Crofters and Maxums drew 3-3. The end result of this is that Villans hold top place with 56 points followed by Dragons with 53 points and Onchan Royals with 47 points.

In the Premier Pairs Young Guns drew 2-2 with Cheesemakers, Blues Brothers lost 0-4 to Villa Boys and the Officials lost 1-3 to Villans. The one remaining match of the evening saw Dragons beat Ramsey Raiders 4-0 which means that Dragons lead on 40 points with Cheesemakers second with 27 points and Villans third with 22 points.

Tuesday evenings First Division Pairs saw bottom of the league Tinjo take a point from leaders Ramsey Wallys as the latter team won 3-1, Enigma lost 0-4 to Spinners and Castletown Crofters and 1 in 4 drew 2-2. The final match was a low scoring game between Stan and Ollie and the How Much? pairing of Rob Matthews and Gordon Wynne-Smythe with the latter team just edging each game to win 4-0. Ramsey Wallys still hold first position with 35 points followed by 1 in 4 with 28 points and in third place are Spinners also on 28 points.

The Friday Afternoon Pairs saw Sunset Rollers lose 0-4 to Lenton Athletic, Dragons beat Woodbourne Reds 4-0 and Rejects and High Jacks draw 2-2. This means that Dragons lead with 32 points and 8 points ahead of Celtic Thunder on 24 points with Sunset Rollers third with 21 points.

In the Singles League John Kewley beat Mike Moyer 18-3, Dee Lewis beat Win Kewley 14-12 and Rob Matthews beat Gordon Wynne-Smythe 15-13. The remaining game saw the ever consistent Muriel Cain beat Marilyn Ellison 20-5. The league is still led by Muriel Cain with 28 points who has won nine and drawn one of her ten games and she is followed by John Kewley with 19 points and in third place is Rob Matthews with 16
