Week 8 of the Indoor Bowling season started with the unusual occurrence of every match in the Premier Pairs League ending in a draw. Tee Pegs drew with GLS while Orange Peelers v TOU, Young Guns v Northern Nomads and Radical Heads and Cheesemakers also played out drawn matches. With Villans having a bye on the night, the League positions now are Young Guns top on 22 points, Cheesemakers second on 21 points and Villans third with 17 points.
First Division Pairs
The First Division Pairs saw leaders Villa Boys have an emphatic 4-0 win over Enigma while second place Spinners were beaten 4-0 by an on form 1 in 4 team and third placed Unbelieveabowls played out a 2-2 draw with Kencoe. The outcome of this is that the top three hold their positions in the League with Villa Boys in top spot on 26 points followed by Spinners on 22 points and Unbelieveabowls on 16 points.
Second Division Pairs
In the Second Division Pairs leaders Reckless Rollers beat Girl Power 4-0 and Cowley Cannonballs and Woodbourne Reds played out a 2-2 draw while Smooth Matters were beaten 4-0 by Sunset Rollers who are undoubtedly one of the most improved pairings of this season. The match between Sensibles and Colonicles saw the points go to Sensibles when their opponents were unable to ‘field a team’. Reckless Rollers then lead the league with 24 points closely followed by Sunset Rollers on 23 points and in third place are Sensibles on 17 points.
Premier League Team
The Premier Teams League saw leaders Villans beat Saltire 5-1 while TBC beat Birdies 4-2 and Cheesemakers beat Ramsey Raiders 4-2. This means that Villans now lead the league with 36 points which gives them a healthy 10 point lead over TBC and Cheesemakers who are both on 26 points.
First Division Team
In the First Division Teams leaders Spinners were beaten 4-2 by Odd Balls, Girl Power beat Okay, Cowley Cannonballs lost to CAOS and Smugglers beat Maxums with all these games having a 4-2 score line. In the lead we still have Spinners with 33 points but Odd Balls have now closed the gap to 5 points as they have 28 points and in third place are Smugglers with 27 points.
Tuesday Morning League
The Tuesday Morning League as usual saw the Bowls Hall full with enthusiastic bowlers all keen to do well but also more importantly enjoy their bowls. I never cease to be surprised by the great atmosphere produced when the Hall and Rinks are full to capacity. League leaders Villans maintained their form to beat Early Birds 6-0 and second placed Cushags beat Thru the Gap 5-1 while Ramsey Raiders moved into third place by beating Smooth Matters 6-0. In the remaining two matches Ellan Vannin lost 4-2 to Onchan Royals and Maxums beat Hillbillies 4-2. This leaves Villain in top spot with 43 points followed by Cushags on 33 points and Ramsey Raiders on 31 points. I feel I must give a special mention to Cushags for they way that they have played this season so far to establish themselves in second place above teams who were tipped to finish higher than them.
Club Championships
Finally may I finish once again with a reminder to get your entries in for the Championships before the closing date of 21st December.
